How to install IPTV on a Firestick

Ten minutes, two apps, and you're watching. Here's the exact sequence we use on every review device.

Updated October 2026

Amazon doesn't list IPTV apps in its own store, which is why installing one feels harder than it is. The trick is a single utility called Downloader, which fetches and installs the app file your provider gives you. No rooting, no computer required.

You'll need your provider's app file (APK) or a playlist/portal URL first. That detail comes from your provider after signup — not from us.

Step 1 — Allow unknown apps

Go to Settings → My Fire TV → Developer options. If you don't see Developer options, tap About and press the device name seven times. Then switch on Install unknown apps.

Step 2 — Install Downloader

Open the Amazon Appstore, search for Downloader (the orange icon by AFTVnews), and install it. This is the tool that will fetch your IPTV app.

Step 3 — Download your provider's app

Open Downloader, type the URL your provider gave you into the address field, and hit Go. The APK downloads and the install prompt appears. Confirm it, then delete the downloaded file to free space.

Step 4 — Log in

Launch the app. Most providers use either a username/password or an Xtream Codes portal URL (the long string that starts with http:// and ends in :8080). Paste it in, and the channel list loads.

Step 5 — Tidy up

Check the app's settings for a "force close on exit" or "start on boot" toggle — both save a lot of fiddling later. If playback stutters, move the stick to the 5 GHz Wi-Fi band.

Which provider to pick

The setup is identical no matter who you choose, so the hard part is the provider, not these steps. If you're still deciding, start with a trial and compare a couple side by side. We keep a tested shortlist in our best IPTV for Firestick roundup — including the IPTV plans from NOVA, which have been the most reliable in our current test cycle.
